What does this Question make me wonder about? This made me wonder that if his father was dead would he have done it, and if other people would have done the same thing as him.

What's life lesson, and how might it effect the character?
the life lesson is that when it comes to life or death you can ether choose yourself or others to save. This might effect Elie because he was already having thoughts of abandoning his dad and he felt ashamed when he did so he might feel vary conflicted.

Rabbi Eliahu's son had left his father to die and Elie was glad that he had forgotten about it.
How might this change things?
Elie will think it is terrible and he wont think he will ever do it but than he starts getting thoughts of leaving his dad when a similar situation happens when a bot kills his dad over bread.
